QA/QC activities in field practice cover the entire workflow from how samples are collected to how tests are performed and how the results are managed and recorded. They ensure that sampling procedures are followed correctly, samples are properly labeled, preserved, and handled to maintain integrity, and that there is a clear chain of custody. They also involve validating measurements in the field through calibration of instruments, use of field blanks or duplicates when appropriate, and proper documentation of methods, conditions, and timing. Beyond the field, QA/QC governs how data are entered, stored, and transferred, including unit consistency, metadata, and data validation, so that results are accurate and traceable from collection to reporting.
